A Thriving Marine Wonderland

The waters surrounding Agulhas National Park are teeming with marine life, thanks to the unique mixing of warm and cold ocean currents where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. This creates a rich feeding ground for fish, seabirds, and marine mammals.

Stunning evening shot of rocks and breaking waves at Cape Agulhas, South Africa's and therefore Africa's southernmost point. Beautiful rocks and wild ocean in the background.

Find

The intertidal zone is full of life too. Exploring the tide pools reveals tiny crabs, mussels, and periwinkles clinging to the rocks. The protected marine area also helps safeguard fragile species like the endangered abalone (Perlemoen), a type of sea snail highly valued but threatened by overfishing.
